GEO Gap

The difference between a site's L2 Search score and L3 AI score in 3LA - a high GEO Gap indicates strong SEO visibility but poor AI citability. Formula: L2 Score − L3 Score.

GEO Gap reveals the hidden cost of pure SEO thinking. A website can rank highly on Google and still be practically invisible in AI-generated answers – because L2 optimisation (technical SEO, backlinks, Core Web Vitals) does not automatically produce L3 visibility (structured content, fact anchors, citability). GEO Gap is calculated as L2 Score minus L3 Score per audit. A gap exceeding 30 points should trigger immediate prioritisation of L3 actions. In 3LA this is currently a derived metric you read out yourself from audit output – it is not stored as a separate field in the system. Pages with L2 above 70 and L3 below 40 are the highest-priority GEO optimisation candidates in your portfolio.
